Captain Indira Vashishta Carena is an accomplished pilot with over 25 years flying experience. Born in New Delhi in 1973, she completed her flight training in Auckland, New Zealand before returning to India to begin her career. After serving as a Pilot Supervisor with Alliance Air in New Delhi for a year, Carena spent 12 impressive years flying for Jet Airways, one of India’s largest and most prestigious airlines. During her time with Jet Airways, she operated a variety of aircraft including the Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 and A340, showcasing exceptional piloting skills.
Indira is recognized as one of the first women pilots in the world to be trained on the Airbus A340, making her a pioneer in her field. In addition to flying, she is passionate about empowering women and has given speeches at colleges and schools in India. Her story has been featured in a chapter of the book “Flying High,” which chronicles the stories of prominent women in India, as well as in magazine articles and news stories over the years. Married with two children, Carena has lived in several countries throughout her career including New Zealand, Algeria, Switzerland, Romania, Croatia, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Her trailblazing career and advocacy for women in aviation make Carena an inspiration to aspiring pilots in India and beyond.
