Serge Betsen’s story began on the 25th March 1974 in Kumba, Cameroon. He arrived in France when he was 9 years old. There, he discovered rugby at the age of 12 at the club called Clichy la Garenne, starting what would be a lifelong passion. In 1991, he left Clichy to study in Bayonne and joined the Biarritz Olympique Club.
As a professional rugby union player, Serge got his first cap with the French national team in 1997 against Italy. In 2000, he took part in his first RBS 6 Nations. Nicknamed the “Grim Reaper” because of his famous tackles and fast starts, he is considered to be the best tackler in world rugby by many pundits and is feared by all his opponents.
He was voted as the best player of the French championship in 2002 and in 2004 he is nominated for Best World Player by the IRB. In May 2008, he opened a new chapter of his life by signing for London Wasps, where he was Captain for two seasons.
Recognising he was in the twilight of his career, he started Serge Betsen Consulting to offer his knowledge and experience to the corporate world. In 2015, he took on his current challenge with Serge Betsen Rugby, a coaching programme based in London where he passes on his knowledge.
